Diego Buñuel is a Franco-American journalist, and television executive recognized for his bold storytelling and global outlook. After studying journalism and political science at Northwestern in Chicago, he began his 15-year career as a war correspondent, covering conflicts across the globe. His early work as a reporter shaped his distinctive narrative voice, blending rigorous journalism with human-centered storytelling. He went on to create and present the acclaimed documentary series on National Geogrpahic  «  Don’t Tell My Mother », which offered audiences intimate and unconventional insights into countries often portrayed only through the lens of conflict. His ability to combine adventure, empathy, and sharp observation quickly established him as a compelling voice in nonfiction filmmaking. 

Building on his career as a journalist and documentarian, Buñuel transitioned into media leadership at Canal Plus where he headed documentaries for France in 2014. He then headed Netflix’s EMEA documentary slate in London before becoming Director of Programs at France Télévisions, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the broadcaster’s creative output.

Diego is also the on screen host of Thalassa, France’s iconic maritime documentary series, he brought fresh energy to a beloved program, highlighting the intersection of culture, environment, and the sea. Today, Buñuel continues to develop ambitious international projects that bridge storytelling, history, and contemporary issues as director of development for France Televisions Studio.
